Snap Spell

A prepared list, one independent round

After the list is ready, practise spelling independently

After a spelling list is ready, a learner can hear each word, type the spelling, and use the current word status to decide what to practise again.

Snap Spell

The list comes first

Independent practice starts after a list has been prepared and checked. This page is about using that existing list for a self-directed round, not about choosing the app or deciding the words.

Set up the list before handing over practice

An adult or the learner can add the spelling words, check them, and save the list first. That step keeps the practice round focused on the words that are actually needed.

Work through one independent round

When the list is ready, Solo Test is the mode for hearing a word and typing the spelling.

  1. 1 Open the prepared spelling list.
  2. 2 Use Solo Test to hear each word and type the spelling.
  3. 3 Return to the list to see which words you want to practise again.

Use word status as a next-step cue

The list shows words as To Study, Practicing, or Mastered. Use these labels as a simple cue for which words you want to return to in the next practice round.

To Study

A word that is still waiting for practice in the current list.

Practicing

A word that is currently being worked on.

Mastered

A word marked as mastered in the current list.

Keep support available

A parent or another helper can prepare the list, stay nearby, or use Practice Together when spelling on paper or shared support makes more sense.

Questions about independent spelling practice

Does the learner need a list first?

Yes. Add and check the spelling words before beginning an independent practice round.

What happens in Solo Test?

Snap Spell reads each word and checks the spelling the learner types.

When should we use Practice Together instead?

Use it when one person should play each word while the learner spells aloud or on paper.
